My Job Shadowing Experience

I job shadowed a Senior IT Engineer from Cisco named Mohammed Quadir and at Cisco he did stuff relating to a voice-over up engineer and supporting Cisco's global voice-over up infrastructure. He said that there were 3 tiers of IT support and he was in the 3rd tier which was the highest. Quadir had a team which he worked with for projects and on Tuesdays he had lots of meetings to see how those projects were going. Quadir also had no actual schedule he however had to come when the company needed him. On the contrary though he said that he liked working at Cisco because they were very flexible and this way he could work and also stay with his family like for example before he could come whenever he wanted and could work at home as well as in the office. Quadir had a Electronic and communications engineering degree, had classes for JAVA, and with his first IT job which wasn't at Cisco he learned a lot which prepared him for Cisco. This was his knowledgeable background and this probably let him get a job at Cisco. When I first got to Building number 5 at Cisco at 9am i was really excited, the front desk lady helped me get started before Mohammed came and she got me the guest sticker and wi-fi and also confirmed for me that i was at the right building. The thing was though that he told me to come between 9-10am so since I wanted to look good I came at 9am but he came at 11:40am after i called him and texted him. Nevertheless we got straight into it and he took me to his cubicle and got me a bagel.He started to then talk about his job that I have already said and then in what should have been the climax he started to get into online meetings and I just sat there not knowing what to do because I couldn't hear the people he was talking to. So I sat there for about another hour but it felt like an eternity doing nothing. So a was sitting then for about 3 hours straight and the job already was seeming dull to me. Then he got out of the call and asked me if I wanted to go to lunch and I jumped on the question and obviously said yes.We then made our way down to the cafeteria and when i got there it beat my expectations because I expected it to be like a school cafeteria but it was more like a restaurant and Mohammed kindly paid for my pizza,chips,and drinks. We started to talk about his job and about the AOIT program that got me there. After lunch he said that he was going to have to go to the apex Costco to run some errands and offered to drop me off I agreed after calling my dad to tell him but before we could leave i wanted to ask him some more questions. Once we finally finished we then went to his car and he dropped me off.

Lesson 11- The internet

What is the internet?
The internet is the largest WAN in the world. What started off as 3 computers(2 in California and 1 in Boston) ended up being used by over 2 billion people on a regular basis. The internet is made up of many other smaller networks all combined into one. There are many different protocols on the internet though however that are key to it's proper function, some of them are FTP, TCP, and IP these are all used daily. IP is how computers communicate on the internet. A computer's IP is like and address that they have and a DNS server ill help you look for it.

What is a protocol?network protocols are the rules that were established in order to better the internet. These Protocols helped computers transfer data but also communicate and enable or control the connection between them. This however could be used on more than 2 computers however and this led to more efficient network.TCP is a type of protocol and they use a set of rules to exchange message with other internet points on the information packet level. IP is also one and is the address of a computer and is the most common protocol to this day.

What is DNS?
DNS stand for Domain Name Service and helps the IP to find a computer by translating it. DNS is like a phone book because it looks up the name and returns an IP address. Without DNS there would be no communication whatsoever on the internet. There are DNS servers that do this and they take only the domain name.They don't look up anything about the first or second part of a URL.

Explain what an ISP is and what it does?ISP stands for an internet service provider. These are the companies that provide their customers the internet. They popped up around the late 1980's. When you use your computer the domain name that is sent to the DNS is from your ISP's server usually. Although you could create your own connection ISP companies make it cheaper and safer. They connect to your router then make it so your LAN can then connect to a WAN which would be the internet.

What is a PING and Firewall?

PING is a tool that you can use to determine how stable your connection from your computer is to another one. It is useful if you want to see if your messages to a computer you want to talk to is sent or not and if the other computer receives them. A firewall is a sort of protection that you can use as software or hardware to keep you safe online. Most schools and business however customize their firewalls in order to ensure that their students and or employees are safe online. They also add rules to the firewall which determine what type of traffic is allowed on the network.

How Networks Link to the internet

This section told you what make up the internet, the Largest WAN in the world. Which is smaller networks all combined into one and they create the internet instead of networks linked to the internet. The smallest networks are ones that individuals set up in their own homes and they connect to larger ones run by their ISP. Then all of those on the ISP server connect at network access points to other networks which allows them to communicate freely. This also tells you about backbones and routers which handle data at the highest level. Backbones are large fiber optic cables and routers are responsible for moving  data between networks or section of a network.

What is an internet service provider

This part talks about Internet Service Providers otherwise known as ISP's. They are the people that help other individuals and companies connect to the internet. When you sign up you are given an email, access to storage space on the ISP's server, and sometimes web hosting services to run your website. They also let customers use Digital Subscriber Lines and cable internet which are the most common type of connections. These are made through copper wire telephone lines, cable TV lines, or other wirings such as fiber optic lines.

Connecting your computer to the internet

This talks about how your computer is connected to the internet. There are many ways it can do this though by getting a modem and ISP, plug your computer into the modem, and then turn the modem on. When you do that and you have a broad band connection you connect your computer to the modem but you don't need to connect to your ISP's server every time you want to use the internet. DSL connections are an alternative option that you can use. T1 lines are similar in that they are a dedicated line no one else can use. They are connected by using a pair of copper wires. You can also connect wireless since most wireless device connect to the internet you can use a wireless network instead your computer can then connect to a router or hub.

How do you hit all of these aspects...Pictures! Nice font. Hearing... Explain what is on the slide give examples and expand on your short info on the presentation. Doing...do something besides hearing and seeing like taking notes.

PowerPoint lets you include many things on your presentation 

Rules

• Keep slides simple and easy to read
• State your purpose
• Add images supporting points
• use a friendly speaking style and relaxed tone
• DON'T just read the slide to the audience 
• Hand motions
• Closing statement
• Don't use Clip Art and photographs in the same slide

Use the right colors that you need, light font with dark background or vice versa as they must contrast

Limit the text you put on a slide by using the 7&7 rule but only on an informational presentation 

Organization

• Use section headers to delineate when you are switching to another topic, almost blank slide
• Present in multiple ways 
• End with a summary 

Add supporting images like pictures,graphics, and charts so that people are interested, key messages that are reinforced, and help visual learners understand 

AVOID cluttering and avoid using colors that don't go together or using way to many colors

Overlap them a bit sometimes or use a border  so you know when a picture ends 

Don't talk to fast 

Add info and examples in your own words

• Don't read from cards but use them to tell yourself what to say like "expand on example" or "tell this story"

• A pixel is the smallest colored dot/square that can be displayed on the screen, the more pixels= more detail and clarity, 
• standard resolution- 1280 x 720 pixels 
• HD- 1920 x 1080 pixels
• Printers and scanners

First 9 Weeks of School

What is your impression about the first 9 weeks of school?
I seem to enjoy the freedom that high school offers you but there is also a lot pressure and responsibility upon you to preform well but I think though that, that is a fair trade off

What has been difficult in the transition from middle school?
I had to make new friends since most of my middle school friends went to different high schools and even less enrolled in the AOIT Academy this made everyone in my classes strangers to me

What has been easy about the transition? 
It was pretty easy introducing myself and making new friends since I didn't know many people and also many of them had common interests,hobbies, and senses of humor as me

What have you learned about yourself?
I have learned the types of people that I am best suited for as friends and also that I have to work hard in order to succeed
